Custom built to your exact opening size
Frame & vinyl backed by Porch Conversions
These custom rectangular memory vinyl windows are built to fit your exact opening, not the closest standard size. Each window is manufactured to order by Porch Conversions: a 7/8-inch extruded aluminum lip-mount frame with an electrostatically painted finish and a memory vinyl panel. The result is a tight, weather-sealing exterior storm window that installs cleanly over your existing opening.
Whether you’re replacing a worn-out storm window on a screen porch, enclosing a sunroom bay, or adding exterior storm windows to a new construction opening, this is the same product the industry has relied on for decades. It doesn’t flex, warp, or yellow; the aluminum frame holds its shape and the memory vinyl returns to flat after any deflection.
These are fixed exterior storm windows. The entire unit mounts from the outside. They’re distinct from interior storm window inserts, which press-fit inside an existing window frame from inside the room. If you’re looking for a full exterior storm window replacement unit, frame and panel together, this is it. If you need interior inserts, view our trapezoid storm windows or call us to discuss your opening.
Older homes, particularly those built before 1980, were designed with exterior storm windows as standard. When the original storm windows fail, the right repair is a direct replacement storm window cut to the original opening size, not a whole-window replacement. These custom aluminum storm windows are the modern answer: the same function and mounting system as the originals, but with a better finish and a tighter memory-vinyl seal. Many customers order these specifically as storm window replacements for old houses where the rough openings are non-standard, such as an 18″ × 43″ or a 27″ × 55″, sizes you simply can’t find in a big-box store.

United Inch (UI) is simply your window’s width + height, both in inches. A 36″ × 60″ opening has a UI of 96. If your UI is under 70, you pay the flat rate of $104.06 regardless of exact size. If your UI is 70 or over, you pay $1.73 per united inch.
Formula for over 70 UI: (Width + Height) × $1.73 = your price. For example: 36″ + 60″ = 96 UI × $1.73 = $166.08.
Frame color and finish do not affect pricing. All prices are before freight shipping costs. Contact us for a freight estimate to your zip code.

Measuring correctly is the most important step when ordering custom exterior storm windows. One wrong measurement means the window won’t fit. Follow these steps before placing your order.
Measure across the inside of the opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Write down all three numbers. For exterior storm window replacement, you're measuring the opening the window needs to cover — not the existing storm window frame.
Measure the height at the left side, center, and right side. Write down all three. Older houses especially can have openings that are out of square — the three-point method catches this.
Your storm window is cut to the smallest width and smallest height you recorded. This ensures the window fits without forcing. The 7/8″ aluminum lip mount frame covers the gap around the perimeter.

A storm window is a secondary window installed over or in front of an existing window opening to add a weather barrier. Exterior storm windows, like these, mount on the outside of the opening and create a sealed air gap that reduces drafts, blocks wind-driven rain, and improves the insulating performance of the opening. They’re common on screen porches, sunrooms, and older homes.
Exterior storm windows mount on the outside of the opening. They’re the traditional style used on porches, old houses, and enclosures. Interior storm windows (sometimes called storm window inserts) press or clip inside the existing window frame from inside the room. These rectangular aluminum storm windows are an exterior product: the 7/8″ lip mount frame sits over the outside of your opening.
Yes, this is the most common use case. If your existing storm window has failed, cracked, or deteriorated, you measure the rough opening, order a replacement storm window cut to those exact dimensions, and it installs the same way the original did. The 7/8″ aluminum lip mount is a standard mounting system compatible with most original storm window openings.
Yes, and old houses are actually the best use case. Homes built before 1960 almost always used exterior storm windows, and their openings are non-standard sizes you won’t find at a big-box store. Because these are made to order, a 19″ × 43″ or a 27¾″ × 54½″ opening is no problem. Storm windows for old houses are also a smarter investment than full window replacement. You keep your original wood windows and just add a weatherproof exterior layer for a fraction of the cost.
The term “storm window inserts” is used two ways. Sometimes it refers to interior inserts that press into an existing window frame. In other contexts, it refers to the full unit, frame plus panel, that installs into or over an opening. These rectangular aluminum storm windows are the full exterior unit. If you specifically need an interior insert that fits inside your existing window sash, call us, and we’ll point you to the right product.
Standard home improvement stores only stock a handful of fixed sizes. For non-standard or exact-fit custom storm windows, you need a specialty manufacturer or distributor. Deck Builder Outlet sells Porch Conversions storm windows made to your exact dimensions, any size from 6″ × 6″ up to 52″ × 96″. Order online or call 1-800-966-9261 for a free estimate.
