V-4 windows have panels that stack vertically, great for tall, narrow openings and maximum ventilation (up to 75%). Horizontal side sliders have panels that slide side to side , better for wide, lower openings and a more traditional window look. If your opening is wider than it is tall, the side slider is usually the right choice.

A double horizontal side slider is a porch window with two vinyl panels that slide left and right in an aluminum frame. One or both panels can be opened to allow up to 50% ventilation. It’s designed specifically for screen porches, sunrooms, and porch enclosures, not for use as a standard home window. You may also hear them called horizontal slider windows, porch sliders, gliding porch windows, or side-slider vinyl windows.
V-4 windows (also called vertical 4-track windows) have panels that stack up and down. They provide up to 75% ventilation and are better suited for tall, narrow openings. Horizontal side sliders have panels that slide side to side. They provide up to 50% ventilation and work better in wide, lower openings where a traditional window look is preferred.
The manufacturer prices by width band (e.g., 31″–38″). Any measurement within that range costs the same because the aluminum extrusion and panel material are cut in similar increments. Your window is still made to your exact inch, you’re not getting a 38″ window when you need a 34″. You pay by the band, but receive a custom fit.

Memory vinyl is a flexible, virtually tear-proof glazing material used instead of glass. It’s typically around 10–12 mil thick, transparent like glass, and available in tinted options (Light Gray, Dark Gray, Bronze). It blocks up to 98% of UV rays, which helps protect porch furniture and flooring from sun damage. Unlike glass, it won’t shatter if impacted.
At heights of 48″ and above, a center horizontal spreader bar is added to the frame for structural reinforcement. It prevents flex in the frame and keeps the vinyl panels gliding smoothly over years of use. The spreader bar is a horizontal aluminum crosspiece roughly at the mid-height of the window. It doesn’t significantly obstruct the view.
Windows larger than 96″ wide × 86″ tall are shipped in unassembled (knock-down) form and assembled on-site. Many homeowners install Porch Conversions windows themselves. The windows mount into the existing rough opening using the aluminum mounting fin.
